Another £250 winner!
03 December 2025
The North Somerset Community Lottery had another winner recently, which was a supporter of the Woodspring Junior Football League. Their story is a great example of the difference that the lottery can make to local good causes.
WOODSPRING JUNIOR FOOTBALL LEAGUE
"The funding for the Woodspring Junior Football League has been totally transformed by the North Somerset Community Fund Lottery" Dave Gooding
One of the Good Causes of the North Somerset Community Lottery is The Woodspring Junior Football League. This is a much loved and valued service for the community and have since 1974 organised youth football for children. The aim is to provide football for all children who want to play and the league do not want the cost of playing to prove prohibitive.
The League has grown over the years from a youth group covering Under 11 to Under 14 to a League that now provides football from Under 7 to Under 16 and this season has over 4,500 players registered to play and they are proud to be able to provide weekly exercise to them.
Previously the main income was through team subscriptions which had to last through the season, but now thanks to the income from the lottery, they can budget much more easily. In addition, they can now offer a discount based on the size of the club.
As well, the League has been able to provide for every club over the last 2 years an amount of football equipment through the season, including match footballs, first aid kits and other training equipment.
This charity has been part of the North Somerset Community Lottery for over 3 years and their group of supporters have helped them to achieve an income of over £10,000 to date, which is a massive help in providing the resources they need to continue with this amazing work.
VANS was delighted to learn recently that one of their supporters had won £250 So, on early one Saturday morning, Bernie Micklewright, Volunteering Development Manager for VANS, paid a visit to Yatton Junior Foodball Club who are one of the clubs within the League to see at first hand what they do and to present the winners cheque to representatives of the charity – Dave Gooding and Rachel Barker as well as the players.
